Poached Pears

Ingredients

6 cups water
zest and juice of one lemon
4 bosc pears (or Anjou or Bartlett)
2 tsp vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean
3 cups sugar

Method

  • Add water to a 4 qt pot
  • Add lemon zest and juice to water
  • Scoop seeds out of pears
  • Peel and add to water as done
  • Add sugar to water
  • Simmer for ~20–25 minutes, until tender
  • Store pears covered in syrup in the fridge

Serve

  • Serve with chocolate sauce and/or ice cream
